Hospira, Inc. was spun off as an independent business by Abbott Laboratories in May, 2004, and established its headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Hospira's business includes specialty pharmaceuticals, medication delivery and contract manufacturing. With the spinoff, the Chicago area became home to the headquarters of a new global, $2.6 billion dollar a year Fortune 700 company.
