Mark Tebbe brings more than 25 years of successful entrepreneurial and start-up experience that has included the founding of two NASDAQ-listed publicly-traded corporations as well as direct involvement in numerous start-up and high-growth companies. In his capacity at Lake Capital, Mark is involved in guiding and aiding numerous portfolio companies with strategy development, operational refinement, execution monitoring, as well as investment evaluation, structuring and negotiation.
Prior to his involvement with Lake Capital, Mark was the founder and Chairman of Techra Networks, a Chicago-based business consulting firm which assisted companies in better leveraging technology to enhance their business results. Mark is also a founder and the Vice-Chairman of Answers Corporation (NASDAQ:ANSW), which owns and operates advertising-supported public websites, answers.com and wikianswers.com that have grown to be one of the leading information portals on the Internet while being named one of the fastest growing US-based websites by ComScore and Hitwise in both 2007 and 2008.
Before creating Techra and Answers, Mark was the Founder and Chairman of Lante Corporation which he grew from a two-person firm in 1984 to an 850-employee NASDAQ-listed international corporation that was acquired by SBI Group in September, 2002. He remained an SBI Board member until Aquantive acquired the merged company in August 2004. In 2007, Microsoft, in their largest acquisition to date, purchased Aquantive in a $6 billion cash transaction.
Additionally, Mark has served as a Board member for three other publically held corporations as well as numerous private companies that he either founded, invested into, or advised. Additionally, Mark has been retained to consult directly with senior management of many leading companies including American Express, Dell, and Microsoft and non-profit organizations such as National Park Service, United Nations, and World Economic Forum.
Over the years, Mark has been a published industry expert and is also a recognized authority on emerging technologies and his insights have appeared in leading national publications like BusinessWeek, Fortune, and The Wall Street Journal. He was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’s prestigious “40 under 40” list as well as inducted into Chicago’s Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame. In light to his service the University of Illinois, the alma mater of his B.S. in Computer Science / Engineering degree, Mark was honored with the Chicago Illini of the Year Award as well as the national Alumni Honor Award for Distinguished Service.
