Communications Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Associate will participate in the strategy for all online and offline media relations, social media, and website content to create visibility for and consistently articulate WBC’s mission. The Communications Associate is creative, executes on tasks, detail oriented and a self-starter. They will be a part of team to ensure that World Business Chicago is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information about the Chicago region’s economic growth and job creation.

The Communications Associate is a full-time position and reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the execution of the WBC’s marketing and communications plan, (internal and external) across WBC’s target audience
  • Support the marketing and communication’s team with various department and organization needs, including:  
    • Manage and execute social media strategy across the organization; strategize on best ways to increase engagement, and track and measure the level of engagement within the platforms over time
    • Content creation in all forms
      • Writing, editing and/or proofreading content, including newsletters, brochures and booklets, press releases, presentations, web content and other materials
    • Command of email communications software and strategic digital campaigns
    • Manage WBC website
    • Understand industry trends and audiences relevant to WBC’s strategic focus areas
    • Management and control of all major organizational lists in Salesforce
    • Cover events attended by CEO and Executive Staff, take notes and pictures for content development

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Highly collaborative style; relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record to execute tasks, and to manage and juggle different projects at the same time
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, City and State stakeholders, program participants, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-5 years of communications experience, agency experience preferred
  • Public affairs and/or corporate communications experience preferred
  • The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical
  • A record of social media campaigns and outreach
  • Basic graphic design ability
  • Ability to use email campaign software
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM
