International Program Manager, Chicago Sister Cities International

World Business Chicago (WBC) is a public-private, non-profit partnership that drives inclusive economic growth and job creation, supports business, and promotes Chicago as a leading global city.

Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI), an initiative of World Business Chicago, promotes Chicago as a leading global city by developing programs in the areas of cultural arts and tourism, global education, government relations and international business for the benefit of the citizens of the City of Chicago and its 29 sister cities.

CSCI is largely volunteer driven, with over 600 volunteers. Each sister city relationship has a corresponding committee of volunteers who actively work to promote exchanges between the two cities. The Council of Chairs is comprised of the chairs of Chicago Sister Cities International committees.


Chicago Sister Cities International is seeking an International Program Manager. The manager furthers Chicago Sister Cities International’s mission to promote Chicago as a global city, develop international partnerships and networks, and share best practices on a city-to-city basis. The International Program Manager manages committee volunteers; plans and executes events and exchanges; and cultivates relationships with partners. This staff member will work as an integrated member of the CSCI team.


The International Program Manger reports to the Executive Director and Deputy Director of CSCI, and primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead or provide support to CSCI’s key initiatives, including: the annual Global Gateways Symposium; the Global Youth Ambassadors Leadership Summit; and the Chicago Consular Corps Gala
  • Manage volunteer sister city committees and guide a diverse group of projects in the fields of International Business, Cultural Arts and Tourism, Global Education, and Government Relations
  • Develop and manage project and committee budgets
  • Create itineraries for international delegations in collaboration with city, public and private sector representatives
  • Work with internal teams on strategies for fundraising, communications and logistics
  • Act as a liaison with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Chicago, international contacts, consular corps representatives, ethnic communities, and other Chicago-area institutions
  • Provide administrative support for Finance, HR, and Development processes
  • Manage membership database and ensure its accuracy
  • Manage database of external partners and stakeholders
  • Prepare a variety of written correspondence, reports, directives and other communications materials
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Three to five years of experience in event programming, project management, and/or volunteer management
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals within and outside of WBC/CSCI
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate to all levels of management
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills with expertise in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with database management; Salesforce preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work some early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • A passion for international relations and protocol
  • Foreign language skills a plus
