Chicago is a thriving metropolis; the origin and center of globally recognized art, architecture, commerce, entertainment, intellectual theory, and research; and home to
institutions and ideas that are unmistakably “Chicago.” Accordingly, many of today’s 20-somethings have found an exciting, culturally vibrant, and distinct home here – as have some of the world’s most notable entertainers, academics, and business leaders, as well as the 44th president of the United States.
Today’s artists like Kanye West and Jennifer Hudson share the same city that influenced the early days of skyscrapers and city planning; improv comedy and house music; nuclear energy and cardiology; deep dish pizza and Oreos. The Wall Street Journal recently called Chicago’s theater scene “better than Broadway,” and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Chicago are recognized among the finest musical institutions in the world.
Chicago has more than 45 museums and cultural institutions, 552 parks, 33 beaches, and 19 miles of lakefront bicycle paths. It offers world-renowned architecture, iconic public art like Cloud Gate (a.k.a. The Bean), and more festivals than any other city (including one of the nation’s largest and longest-running music festivals, Lollapalooza, which attracts 225,000 concertgoers every summer). Chicago is home to authentic fashion boutiques and world-class restaurants (including more AAA 5-Diamond restaurants than any other city in the U.S.). And when parents and friends inevitably visit, they will have a variety of award-winning hotels to choose from, including five Conde Nast Gold List and two of Zagat’s Top 10 Hotels in the World.
