#9. Find Your Place

With more than 200 neighborhoods and cultural enclaves like Chinatown, Ukrainian Village, Andersonville, Greektown, and Paseo Boricua, Chicago is a cosmopolitan urban center, providing options for a wide variety of tastes and interests.

From high-rise condos and historic loft conversions to row houses, bungalows, and frame houses, Chicago offers a wide variety of housing. Some neighborhoods, like Streeterville, comprise dense pockets of high-rises and mixed-use corridors, while others like Wicker Park-Bucktown boast a vibrant nightlife and a cluster of high-end fashion boutiques. Hyde Park contains a wide array of cultural institutions, reflective of its strong academic and arts community, while Pilsen is popular for its weekly “Art Walks” and growing cluster of independent restaurants.

Regardless of the neighborhood you choose, it is easy to navigate around the city with more than 200 miles of bike lanes, the second largest public transportation system in the country, and a choice of car-sharing services. Imagine buying lunch at one of Chicago’s 25 farmers markets and choosing among 570 parks for a picnic, or charting a goal to make it to at least 10 of 400 neighborhood festivals – like the African Festival of the Arts, Celtic Fest, Gospel Fest, Pride Fest, Renegade Craft Fair, RibFest, or Windy City Wine Fest.
