Midwest manufacturing output up 13.2% from a year ago

Today, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago released June 2010 figures for the Chicago Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index (CFMMI), an index of manufacturing output based on hours worked in major industries in the Midwest region (IL, IN, IA, MI, WI). The CFMMI decreased 0.5% from May to June (seasonally adjusted); however, regional output in June 2010 increased 13.2% from a year earlier, and national output increased 8.9%.

There was positive movement in two of the four regional industry sectors in the Midwest from May to June 2010:

  • Regional steel sector output increased 0.9%
  • Regional machinery sector output increased 0.6%
  • Regional auto sector production decreased 0.2%
  • Regional resources sector output decreased 1.4%
