According to the Illinois Association of Realtors, 27.5% more homes sold in the city of Chicago in June 2010 than in June 2009 (2,526 compared to 1,981), marking the 10th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Similarly, June 2010 home sales in the 9-county Chicago PMSA were 27.2% above June 2009, representing a full year (12 months) of consecutive year-over-year growth. (Despite a higher number of sales, median sale prices were 3.2% lower in the city compared to a year ago, and 1.2% lower in the greater Chicago area). The University of Illinois Regional Economics Applications Laboratory (REAL) predicts sales in the Chicago PMSA will continue to be 21%-32% higher in July, August, and September on an annual basis; month-to-month sales are forecast to increase in July, but decrease in August and September in the 0-5% range.
