Foreign Direct Investment: Globalizing Chicago's Economic Development Plans

September 10, 2012

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs today released its newest publication, Foreign Direct Investment: Globalizing Chicago’s Economic Development Plans, a report from an independent working group of twenty-five Chicago business and civic leaders.

We appreciate the Chicago Council's work and its focused attention on attracting foreign investment to Chicago. As the report says, well-funded, strategic efforts to reach out to foreign companies could have an enduring impact on both job creation and economic activity. As outlined in Chicago’s Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs, Chicago has a number of strengths that make it an attractive location for foreign companies seeking to establish or expand their U.S. presence. The CCGA study refers to the Plan as a platform on which to build a strategy for increasing FDI in the region. WBC’s staff and board of directors look forward to collaborating with CCGA and other organizations to further implement the study’s ideas, which could greatly impact efforts to attract foreign investment and remain competitive in the global economy.
