Hewitt Associates/Aon Corporation Merger Furthers Chicago’s Position as Global Center for Human Capital Consulting

July 15, 2010

CHICAGO – Chicago-based Aon Corporation announced this week that it will merge its consulting business with Hewitt Associates, Inc., a human resources consulting company headquartered in north suburban Lincolnshire, pairing Aon’s global brand recognition with Hewitt’s reputation as a premier consulting and outsourcing firm. The merger will allow the Chicago region to retain two of its largest employers, and it will expand the region’s role as an international center for risk management and human capital consulting.

Aon, already the world’s largest insurance brokerage firm, will absorb Hewitt’s human resources expertise, expanding each organization’s role as a global leader in human capital solutions. The new partnership will integrate executives and employees from both organizations, and operate under the name Aon Hewitt, a subsidiary of Aon Corporation. Russ Fradin, chairman and chief executive officer of Hewitt, will serve as chairman and chief executive officer of Aon Hewitt, reporting to Greg Case, chief executive officer, Aon Corporation.

"This agreement reflects our ongoing efforts to ensure that Aon's associates, capabilities and technology remain at the forefront of our industry, providing distinctive client value," said Case.  "As we continue to grow our business, this merger will give us a broader portfolio of innovative products and services focused on what we believe are two of the most important topics in the global economy today – risk and people."

"We are extremely excited to join forces with another iconic global brand to form the leading human capital services enterprise," said Fradin. "This combination allows us to provide even more services for our clients and greater opportunities for our associates.”

The partnership has also been well received by local leaders who say it solidifies and expands Chicago’s standing as a global leader in human capital consulting.

“It is always good to see Chicago businesses thrive here,” said Mayor Richard M. Daley. “And to see two highly successful local companies position themselves for greater international success – that will strengthen Chicago globally.”

“This is exceptionally positive for our business community, and for our city,” said Rita Athas, President of World Business Chicago. “Here, you have two widely respected Chicago brands that are furthering their global positions, and through that, cementing the city’s role as a capital of risk management and human resources consulting.”
