How broadband deployment supports innovation
Today's economy is driven by massive amounts of information being exchanged among businesses around the world. Companies from startups to major corporations rely on high-speed connections to support new technology, knowledge and data sharing, and collaboration—key components for innovation.
Studies have shown a strong link between broadband access and economic growth, indicating the ability to support these connections has a direct impact on economic growth, business climate, and level of innovation.
This month's Innovation Index highlights broadband trends and initiatives, focusing on deployment (availability), commercial adoption, government support for deployment, and the rise of mobile broadband in Chicago and Illinois. It also features preliminary results from the 2011 Chicago City-Wide Broadband Survey (Mossberger, Tolbert and Redlawsk).
