World Business Chicago to Receive Economic Development Award

September 16, 2007

September 16, 2007 - Acknowledging World Business Chicago for its promotional campaign, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) will present its General Purpose Promotion award to the Chicago, Illinois-based organization at IEDC's Annual Conference, which is scheduled to take place in Phoenix, Arizona, September 16-19. The organization will be recognized for this achievement during an awards ceremony on Tuesday, September 18th.

"Economic development efforts have always played a vital role in shoring up the nation's economy, one locality at a time," said Ronnie L. Bryant, IEDC chairman. "As our population grows exponentially and as we continue to overcome challenges, both new and longstanding, these efforts have taken on an even greater importance. The award serves as a salute to pacesetting organizations like World Business Chicago for leading the charge."

Competing in the category of General Purpose Promotion by organizations serving areas with populations exceeding 200,000, World Business Chicago was a clear standout. Chicago's business leaders, government and creative community have come together to create this pro-bono ad campaign capturing Chicago’s strengths in business and tourism. Over thirty different ads were placed at O'Hare Airport, including pull shades and banners. Extending beyond the limits of O'Hare, ads have appeared in The Economist, Site Selection, and fDi magazines. From the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to Charlie Trotter to Millennium Park – photos were donated to showcase Chicago's culture and beauty. The engaging visuals and witty headlines draw the attention of more than thirty-eight million business and leisure travelers passing through O’Hare International Airport on connecting flights. This general promotion, high-impact campaign, gives travelers a taste of what they’re missing outside of the terminals, enhancing their awareness of Chicago. The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness about what Chicago has to offer – it’s not only a great place to visit, but it’s a wonderful place to live and work.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is headquartered in Washington, DC. Its mission is to provide leadership and excellence in economic development for communities, members and partners. IEDC's professional economic development awards annually recognize excellence in the economic development profession.
